fuel pressure regulator rebuild

Looking for info on how to rebuild the regulator. Don't have a manual don't want to have to buy one. I have the new blue spring kit. need to know if the whole secondary filter housing has to be removed and best way to do so if necessary. If not can I just pull the four cap screws to get the new spring in or will parts fall out.
Hoping this is my problem as the fuel pump seemed loud, seemed to run out of fuel then wouldn't start. replaced fuel pump, still seems loud and has a very hard time starting when it does. any help is greatly appreciated. just want to get it running good again so I can try to sell/trade it for mid 90's 7.3 crew.

remove the four bolts and the fuel line. Fuel line first.

yes small parts will fall place a cloth below fist to catch, the spring will push the housing off as you remove, so hold onto it.

fuel regulator

i have the same truck and just changed mine - not bad - i took the intercooler pipe out , took the top radiator hose off, yes you will leak antifreeze
took the fuel return line off - there is a oval ring there, comes with kit
took the four cap bolts out - hang onto to housing - spring is coming to - took the check valve out, - everything comes with kit
there is a small plastic piece at top of housing - mine stayed in -
i lubed all oval rings/gaskets before i put back together
you will have to add antifreeze - i lost about a gallon
truck runs and idles better
no more fuel smell either
