Clearance Light Info Needed

I know this has been beaten to death here, but I'm coming up with 2 different part numbers for the lights.

Everyone's installation instructions come up with
1C3Z-15A404-AA for the harness, but for the lights, I have seen 2 different part numbers.

The first one is F81Z-15442-AA, and the other is 6C3Z-15442-A. Being familiar with the Ford part numbering system, I realize that the F81Z part number was released for the 1998 model year, and the 6C3Z number is a later number, either 2003 or 2006--Ford changed their numbering system in 2000--it's hard to tell now. Maybe Ford replaced the F81Z lights with the 6C3Z lights ??? The last time I talked to my local Ford dealer parts manager, (about 3 weeks ago), the F81Z lamp was still a good part number.

Luckily, this Ford dealership is right across the street from my shop, and the new car get ready man showed me the light he uses when someone wants them put on--they have a foam rubber seal on the bottom. He told me to get those--they seal better. He doesn't know the part number--the light was out of the box. Are those the early or late ones ??? Do they both (early & late) have foam on the bottom ??? Are they interchangable, or did Ford change the roof curvature on the later Super Duties ??? Remember, he is working on current model trucks, so I would assume that the light he showed me is the later one (6C3Z).

Does anyone out in cyberland have any answers for me ???

THANKS,

RON

I bought the ones on ebay - they have foam on the bottom and seal great - no need for silicone (could still use it if you want for that extra seal). If you drill the hole centres 5 1/2" back from the window seal, it cleared the roof support nicely. If you only drill them 3 1/2" back I think you would end up drilling in behind the support and that would be a very bad thing. I found that middle 3 to contour nicely to the roof, the outside two need to be either trimmed a bit to line up perfectly with the roof lines, or do what I did and put a made to fit thin piece of black rubber gasket to shim the rear of the base slightly to fit them tight.

The harness he sends was also a direct plug and play for my 2005 behind the right side kick panel and all of the plastic plugs went straight into the holes in the roof and down the window pillar. Make sure you get the harness for the correct year as a couple of installs I have seen on this site use a harness that has a different plug than for my 2005. I'm not sure what years they changed the plug, but the one from ebay was "plug and play" for my truck.
