Long story short i found out that i am improperly insured through progressive personal lines policy. I have a six in lift and they only insure up to a 4in lift for a personal policy. Who do you guys use for insurance and what are your monthly payments. Any help would be appreciatted. Thx

Benny, that is good food for thought that I was not aware of. I would be making some phone calls. Did you get the truck back yet?

Hmm, this caught my attention. What do you mean by improperly insured? As in, if you were in an accident, they would not cover you because your lift exceeds their limitations? I have Erie Insurance.. not sure what they have to say.

I think it is because of any aftermarket part that is not standard replacement value and the insurance company is not notified of same where they can increase the premium for comprehensive coverage.

In this case however, I do not see the problem if the other party was at fault unless they have no insurance. They have to pay for damage. Civil law works that way. I suffered a loss. A dollar figure is attached to that loss. You are responsible for said loss. Pay up.

Anything we need to know about here Benny?

Sounds like the girl that hit you needs to be mailing some of her paychecks your way. Sue her @ss to the stone age and don't let go. Sorry if that came across as mean but I have had my fill of dummies this past month and it's time to start straightening a few of them out. Hit 'em in their wallet and they pay attention quicker.

Can't help you on the lift question. My truck is only lifted 4". I am insured by Safeco. Full coverage with all the bells and whistles, $107/month.

Mike and others, so ive been informed the way insurance companies see it is if you are lifted. On one side of the coin you will be out in the mud tearing up your truck as much as you can so on full coverage they want you to carry higher limits. In the case of an accident yes your parts are harder to get, take more time and often cost more money than OEM, so again more money. Also what im thinking to is bieng lifted you could do more damage to another automobile because of higher bumpers, thats why some states that have inspection laws you have to move your bumpers down if you have a lift.

In my case i was technically ok because the damages werent over 10000 dollars to my truck which is the florida low end requirement for liability(what she had). If it was over that number then my policy would have had to been claimed and they come after her for the deductable and restitution for the overage. The claims adjuster was the one that told me to get my coverage checked because he deals with it all the time, when im back on the road the first place im going is the insurance office, then on the phone to other carriers if they cant cover me.

And trust me if you cause an accident and your lifted, and not properly insured for it, your insurance company and theres will come after you for everything.
It is the job of the policy writer to look at your vehicle when they write the policy but if you add the lift afterward and dont inform them YOUR liable. And we all know if they can they will leave you hangin with the bill.

There basing your lift limitation on state laws, which goes by weight then allowable height. They want you to be in complience with state laws.

This is interesting... I have 9" in the front and 8" in the back. I have statefarm insurance and they never said anything about the lift? In louisiana it is a height of headlight limitation for lifted vehicles, I think it is 56" from the ground to the headlight or something like that. I just figured if I am legal then I am covered, better find out for sure I guess...
