Loss of power & loud exhaust

Hi All.
My name is Dana. My wife & I are the proud owners of two power stroke trucks.
One 95 F350 crew cab dually and one 97 F350 crew cab 4x4 (single rear wheel).
Sunday night I was leaving the store and the 95 truck suddenly lost power, became very loud (sounds like exhaust) and tripped the engine light. I have gotten on line and ordered an elm 327 scanner with usb to plug into my lap top so we can scan and get the codes (still a day or two out). If any one has any thoughts or input on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It could be several things, one of the gaskets on the up pipe gave way (look for soot on the firewall and around the up pipes), EBPV was closing (unplug it at the two wire connector under the turbo. Others will be along to give you more ideas and welcome aboard.

Welcome to FTE. Has there been any change since Sunday night? Has it gotten worse? Having the codes will be a help, but as plowhand said look for the soot.

I did look for the soot. looking from the front of the truck I can see some soot on the fire wall (left of the turbo) I put my hand on it and rubbed not much came off. maybe not much is there because the truck was only driven less then 1/4 mile home.
What code would you see if the up pipe was the problem.
Years ago a snapon scanner told us this truck had a turbo problem and it ended up being a cam or crank sensor.
After reading many of your posts I sure think I"am in the right place.
Thanks Dana
