I am thinking getting a dual filter relocation kit for my truck so I can hold an extra quart of oil, have twice the filtering capability, and have cooler oil.
Heres the one I want (or at least I think I want) http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...002020/c-10101
Does anyone have one/installed one? And if so, are they as good as I'm wanting them to be.
I had the same relocation kit. Worked great for two years... then one of the crimped fittings started leaking. The leak became progressively worse. Hose clamps were only a band-aid.
The leak became more than I was willing to deal with and now I'm back to the stock filter location.
fyi- if you get the two-filter system you will have about 7.5 quarts of oil.
It's not really twice the filtering ability....the oil does not go through one filter THEN the other thus filtering twice. The filters are in parallel so to speak. The only benefit here is more capacity and clean, easy oil filter changes and if one filter fails somehow you still have some filtration.
I used to use have a single kit lasted 7 years .I broke the block fitting during oil change . Its Nice to not have oil running over the diff at oil change .
I 'm looking now also any ideas??
too bad my mechanical ability is about a year away of doing something like this.
Any three fingered monkey with no opposable thumbs can do it!
Think long and hard about your filter location spot... is the truck a highway queen, does it see off road use etc. etc.
As eco stated earlier... it's not a dual filtration system so to speak (in comparison to Amsoil's filter bypass unit) it CAN make oil changes simpler and cleaner. It CAN also complicate your oiling system.
They can also cause a massive oil leak and spray motor oil over your driver side manifold while stuck traversing a frozen US forest service road (where I only had 3 quarts spare) 30 miles from any help. Luckily some zipties and duct tape slowed the bleeding on the lines and I was able to limp her back home with the limited supply of oil in my tool box.
After that fiasco... I went back to FoMoCo's location for oil filtration.
To be honest... the system worked great (and still does) for my 2wd 1989, and has lasted many years. But after the predicament the last Trans-Dapt left me in early in October of this year, I'm more than happy to run the stock setup again.
My bet is the jarring, bouncing and general rough off road abuse my 94 endures, the trans-dapt setup just couldn't hang. First week of the 2nd winter with the dual filter setup on "The Teal Mobile", and I started leaking (more like gushing!). The 2wd highway queen 1989 300 I6 truck has had the unit on for 6+ years and no leaks.
If you find yourself outside of civilization often, and dependent on your Ford to get you home....my bet is stick with the stock Oil Filtration system. From first hand experience.
