DP 80hp Tow vs 80hp Econo

Can you tell the difference in the power between the 80hp Tow and 80hp Econo. I have both and it seems like the 80hp Econo tows stronger than the 80hp Tow.

What is everyone's opinion?

i know the shifts are different. I think its the same power..and I think the TQ is moved in the RPM range to pull the load with lower egt's...I am sure I will be corrected though..lol

I think the shifts are harder with econo than tow because you don't want to firm a shift with towing.

My 40tow shifts harder than my 80 econo under a semi-agressive pedal. Just slow driving, the 40tow shifts right on time and crisp but the 80e rolls in early. Now, my original 40tow (that is burned on my PCM) shifts even harder! What was cool about it was, it held for so long under load that I could shift it manualy once I learned the max shift points and started lifting off the pedal just a little.

I think we are primarily concerned with fueling and EGTs when towing. If you look at the order tables on the site, the bigger/heavier you tow, the lower the HP rating gets when selecting the recommended tow tune IIRC.

Yes I'd agree, when we tow, we want more power and keep the EGTs down at the same time.

Edit!!!!: Tenn, you put one down this year yet?

i dont have much too add, as i tow in the cold north, the hottest day ive towed in was 65 deg. pulling around 13K this past summer and never seen over 900 deg when I had the 40 tow, now ive went to the 80 tow but havent had it on the highway yet with a load, but if feels nice, good power, very responsive and the shifts are on the money along with the inner workings of my transgo tugger kit.
the biggest deal with the tow tunes is timing and fuel delivery to keep the egts down.

I don't have a problem with EGT's in either mode. Just seat of the pants feeling is more towing power with the Econo than the Tow.

Don't forget that the 80E tune has been massaged by Jody, so it's more like a 105HP tune now. That would probably be why you feel the difference....

That's about what I think I'm feeling. I've had the 80E in a PCM for 3-4 years. Just got the new 80E and 80T in the EVO.

That's an awful lot of travel trailer there Ehammond, how many times did you pull it before you bought the Hensley Hitch ?

Anyway, my 60tow doesn't adjust the transmission parameters but my 80 Economy does. I've pulled in both modes and 80econo runs a little hotter but alot harder. My EGT's are the same stock and 60Tow while towing makes no difference.

This is the 3rd trailer I've had the Hensley on. Changed it over before I left the dealers lot with it.

how much is the throttle position sensor adjusted between the two setting as well. I know on 80econ my pedal is far more sensitive versus the 60tow. This could account for some of the precieve increase in power. I do agree with the above post thought, the 80E is not 80, its more like 100
