Guys, I need some help with my truck. Today my breaks locked up while trying to stop suddenly. Before they ABS light would come on and off, yet most of the time they would stay off. They have "shook" since I bought the truch a few months back. Today there was a loud "bang" like something broke, then no ABS at all, and the light stayed on. It rained later in the day, and they locked up pretty easy, and I went skidding into the wrong lane.
The worst part is I can't afford a shop to tell me whats wrong. I need to find the least expensive way to get the brakes fixed. Seems as if everones problem is slightly diffrent. If you guy could point me in the right dirrection I would appriciate any information given. Thanks
If you need more information about my truck or problems to help me diagnos the problem, please feel free to ask.
Based on your description, check the rotors. Shaking is usually caused by warped rotors, and the bang, very well could have been a rotor separating off the hub! Had this happen and very scary. Will cause loss of front brakes. Also the bang could have been a pad separation from the backing plate, also very scary.
Well as many time as I have been under my truck, you would think I'd be smart enough to look for the rings, but I believe they are not at the spindles, but in the axles on 4x4's. Won't claim to know anymore, might have already stuck might my foot in my mouth. Sorry not much more help.
by shaking i guess you mean a vibration in the wheel when you brake. that is due to warped or damaged rotors. it dont hury anything as long as its not vibrating the whole truck. it wont get better, needs to be checked.--- brakes lock up easy is because the ABS dont work now (light on) and your pushing on the pedal too hard. the ABS is to keep you from locking up the tires while braking.---why the light is on is your biggest problem. since you heard a BANG, i would jack up each wheel and look at the brakes and disc on each to see what is going on. --the speed pickup is inside the wheel / bearing hub on a 4 x 4. i doubt that is your problem.
Yea, it shakes when I apply the brakesa, and it has alway done that. Then the other day "BANG". ABS has stayed on since. It use to go on and off. I need to get underneith the truck, yet Im still not sure what to look for. I'm going to star off just checking the brakes. Will there be anything noticable to the untrained eye?
