Help-Idle Air Contr Valve R&R 99 5.4L F250SD
What suggestions does anyone have for removing the Idla Air Controller Valve from a 99 F250 SD 4x4 5.4L? It appears to be towards the rear of the throttle body under the cowl with the heads of the bolts toward the firewall. I tapped it and got it to work but am leary of driving with it choosing to go bad on it's terms and not mine. What tricks and tools work best for removing and replacing this?
Thanks,
Jim

I've used only a standard 8mm or 7mm wrench, a rachet wrench would work best though. Took the IAC valve off a couple times to clean it out with WD-40 or throttle body cleaner, maybe next summer I'll install a new valve. Be careful not to damage the gasket if you are cleaning it you can reuse it. If replacing a new gasket should be included with the new vavle.

It's a 8mm wrench/socket. Here is a pic, just unplug the connector and remove the 2 8mm bolts that hold it on. I used a 1/4" ratchet and socket to remove mine.

One of the tricks I used when replacing the IAC on my '99 5.4 Superduty was to use a NEW gasket to hold the bolts in place while lining up the IAC with the bolt holes. The Motorcraft gasket is perforated around the bolt holes to "grip" the bolts. It's still a pain in the **** to get the job done though. My Motorcraft IAC did not come with a gasket. I had to purchase it separately.
