If the gauge is C - H then I would question the gauge. Check your thermostat before tossing it and if you still have issues consider an accurate gauge.
The gauge that I have is a \NORMAL/ type gauge and it has been running into the AL of the gauge. When this motor was in a van it read the same. I`ve noticed that when it gets this hot the motor wants to chug and not run smooth. The radiator is full with 50/50 antifreeze. New equipment from the plugs to rotor and ingnition coil. Also when it gets this hot the motor if it has been running at highway speed, and I drive into a parking lot the motor stalls, and is very hard to get started again till it cools down. Then it will act fine untill the temp comes back up.
Double check your timing and plug wire locations, make sure all the wires are separate from each other. You might also pull the ignition module and have it tested, most local auto parts stores do it for free but make sure they test it 8-10 times so it gets good and warm which is when it is most likely to fail.
