So Felix, does this mean you're volunteering to lead our More Southern region?

Bitch away. I like your ideas and much of what you have said is what I think all of us in Florida think. When Monty was the CL, he'd organize things down south and it would only be a handful that could/would go. After living in West Palm for over 15 years, I know I have no desire to return to that fast paced atmosphere again, not even for a get-together. I love it up here in the boonies.

If you're interested, I'll check and see if we can have Co-Leaders. That might work our nicely since you're south and Tony's rather central.

ya know felixr, we have the same problem here in New Jersey.
Atlantic city is a 1 3/4 hour drive south for me, and i am in the center of the state.
Level 10 Power, a site sponsor, is 1 1/2 hours north of me. so if a member in Cape May was to attend a meet in Greenwood lake, it would take him over 4 hours to drive from one end of the state to the other.
the 4 meet & greets we have had so far were 2 south, and 2 central, with very few participants due to the travel requirements.

True!, Heck I'm still south so i guess you guys are more south.

Felixr you have some good points however i wouldn't get mad at folks trying to help the chapter out. From the way I'm seeing this NOBODY has made a decision on a chapter leader merely a recommendation. When Carlene and i started this chapter we tried to get things going the best we could, And Carlene even lived in WPB at the time(your area). It was tough to get anything going. Folks would come in * Hi, How are ya, Yay we have a Fla chapter* Then we never heard from them again. There are a few still around however but with the lack of traffic they don't bother, Hence the need for a CL that hopefully will stir things up.

I do think the regions is a good idea, I even think the SC chapter should have at least two. BUT there needs to be some kind of unity and thats where in my opinion the CL comes in. It's up to you folks to do what you want in your chapter bottom line is it's supposed to be fun.

BTW I'm not a northerner, I'm still southern in my book.

Get at the grass roots principle. Make it easy to have small meets nearby, as a part of the greater whole.

The average person with a ford truck is not going to flog it a couple hundred miles just to say: "HI! How are ya..."

They can't because fuel is sky high, and accomodations at the far end cost too.

BRING IT HOME!

If I carry no other message to everyone this year, this is the one that makes all the difference.

GATHER AROUND near where you are - and make a big meet later, IF YOU CAN.

Florida is long, and the exits far between. Group up where you can, and tell your stories online with pictures.

THAT just might work, and bring G2G's within the scope of everyone.

It ain't a new philosophy, it is an old and practical one that I think can work.

SCREW IT! Have barbecues, and post pics online....

FLORIDA, like Tennessee has a driving cost and time problem, and the answer is to not think that big. GET IT REAL!

And you can do that with branch chapters of the mighty FLORIDA CHAPTER, DIVIDE and conquer, explore the people down the road from you, there is no need to make a hundred or more mile trip, unless you want to be there that bad.

Bring it home to your own town first. What happens after that is up to who wants to go....

BRANCH, and check in.The fuel savings by themselves will make G2G's happen.

This a totally new philosophy - DOES IT WORK FOR YOU?

Sarasota Branch
Jacksonville Branch
Miami Branch.....

Got the idea? Go there....

There really are a lot of you.

Why would you want to drive all over hell, when you can just post about it online?

Am I volunteering? hmm . . . I've thought of that for a while actually . . .the reason I havent stepped forward to do so is because I'm affraid that, with the big city life boggin me down and taking up all my time, I wouldn't be good enough and wouldnt be able to devote the time and effort it takes to be a good CL.

Would I still try? Sure as *****.

GreyWolf brings up an interesting point. Maybe we need to think smaller scale. We can have a Florida chapter but instead of 3 regions, we can have a branch at every major city that we have members at. For instance, we can have an Orlando branch or wherever the heck you guys are over there in central florida and a Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Branch and a Tallahassee or Penscaola branch etc etc

this might make advertising for the individual branches easier by enticing people to join what may seem to them to either be exclusive or geared specifically toward them . . . either way they would be interested.

This would also concentrate the interest where it already exists. However, it would have to be something like the "Miami and South Florida" branch or the "Greater Miami and Surrounding areas" branch

and the "Silver Springs and Central Florida branch" or "Silver Springs and surrounding areas branch"

etc etc

whataya think?

I thank you ketchin on!

I think it can be done that way - LIKE I SAID! Bring it home.....

I always had a kinda clue that it took more than one

THREE GUYS IN A DRIVEWAY makes a branch.

But if you just cain't git there, it won't work.

So it needs to be closer, and add to it all.

I believe this idea is a key one.

If motor running costs seperate us, then we need to re-group, and gather where we can and share online

Hmmm. I can help with part of the issue...Missouri is pretty far flung as well, and is about 4.5 hours from one end to the other...8 hours if you're driving corner to corner...

Generally, we'll have a meet in the St. Louis area for those that are close by, one in the KC area, (where all the cool people are... ) and one close to Springfield.

Then, once a year, we'll have our "statewide" meet somewhere in the central area of the state...last year it was Lake of the Ozarks...so some of us have more of a drive than others, but it worked out pretty well!

I'm glad to see some more interest. Thanks for removing the other threads Carlene. Felix has some very good points, as do the rest of you. We need to come up with a good plan to liven this place up for sure.

There are two chapters right now that need a CL

I'm there for you if you need me.

I might ruin myself by kicking up a fuss over it, but it would be worth it.
