How hard is it to install an exhaust

I want to install a mbrp 4 inch exhaust on my 00 Excursion. How hard is it to install the down pipe on the truck. Is this install idiot proff install. I just need some confidence before I go and buy this. I would like to hear how easy or hard the install was. So if you have any experience in installing a exhaust on an Excursion diesel or other truck please let me know,
Thanks,
Nick

The hardest part is getting the old one off !!!!!!!!! It works better to have a buddy to help putting the new one on! I let the 3.5" down pipe on from there 4" straight back and out the side in front of the rear wheel. All parts from NAPA!!

I installed a 4" system (stainless, turbo-back) from Summit Racing on my '99 in about an hour. I have a twin-post 10,000lb lift which saves scads of time and effort but it wasn't essential to doing the job(though it sure is NICE). If you have a good safe jack, jackstands and access to a reciprocating saw it's not going to be tough even lying on your back on concrete. The saw's just for removing the old system. It's far and away easier to connect up to the turbo with someone helping you, as was the case with my doing the job. I wouldn't care to try the turbo connection all by myself.

I installed my 4" MBRP exhaust in little over 3 hours by myself in my driveway with out jacking up the truck. 1st, I sprayed the clamp for the turbo to the DP the night before with PB Blaster to make sure it will come off. The next morning, I made sure all pieces in the kit will fit, and took steel wool and buffed all connections to make sure. Didn't need to - the kit fit perfectly - but wanted to be safe. Next loosen the DP clamp and cut the pipe before the trans crossmember with a sawzall and a sharp 6" blade. Then procede to cut or unbolt all the old connections and remove the old system. Honestly, cutting the old system out took me the longest.

When I installed the new DP, I got creative. I first fitted the pipe from underneath and with the help of lots of zipties, I was able to hold the DP in place while I got up top and clamped on the DP. took a couple of attempts but I did it in about 10 minutes. Yes, it would have been easier with 2 people. Once that was clamped on, I continued to install all the pieces going from front to back. I used cinder blocks and 2x4's in various places to hold the system up while I clamped all the pieces in and checked thoroughly for rubbing. Do Not tighten the clamps all the way until you are sure you have everything where you want it. I retighten the clamps after a 10 minute test drive and it's been OK for the last 5 weeks now. You can do it, just take your time.

ponyboy pretty much summed it up for you. If you don't feel mechanically able to tackle this project then simply take the kit to an exhaust shop and they'll assemble it for you.

All you need is a sawzall it makes coming off a lot easier a ratchet and 2 deepwell sockets, I don't remember the sizes, is really all you need.

IIRC, I had three cuts, one in front of the tranny crossmember, second before the muffler and third after the muffler. None of my bolts were coming out very easily so I got impatient. Went through 2 blades.
