Dielectric Grease on COP boots

What's the correct location on the COP for applying the dielectric grease? Some posts have mentioned putting a bead of it near the top of the COP just under the coil body before sliding it down onto the plug. Some suggest applying it inside the actual COP boot before sliding it onto the plug. What if the grease gets on the top post of the plug itself? Any suggestions on correct technique based on your experience will be appreciated. Thanks.

I always put a little into the end that snaps onto plug then run a bead around where the top of the boot seals against the head, thinking if might help seal water out. done this since 99 and have had no problems.

Ditto - use it in both locations. It will prevent water from getting down into the plug and save you a headache later on!
