I had the same prob with my supercab. But with mine they cut the top and bottom of the frame rail. I cut pieces and weldedback in to make the rail look factory then boxed it. I also had the crack problem. I drilled the end out and plug welded it then v notched it and welded it up. I got a cheap set of headers from flowtech cause its just a work truck. They ran me bout $184
were those headers designed to clear the frame I take it?
my truck had the tranny x-member notched because the p.o. couldnt find the right headers. he used 77.5-79 headers. at least he welded in some supports.
Maybe I otta show you the frame on my 2WD crew cab. They could not get the cross member out to get the transmission out becasue the gas tank was in the way. Instead of taking the gas tank out, they cut the bottom of the frame rail to get the crossmember out. :shaking:
Ignorant people will do that every time without a second thought. "Imma gunna get that dagum enjun to fit!"
haha yep sounds right to me. And I know some people like that....think twice about who you let work on your truck...
anywho about the header problem again, someone posted that getting the rest of the piping from the headers back the back of the truck....could $400 - $600... That seems a little steep. well bottom line is, Iam an 18 year old senior in high school, working at a christmas tree farm/pumkin patch making minimum wage. it took me about a month to get $550. soo, Ive got enough for the headers. there $520. i got a whopping $30 to play with....maybe $100 from the parents to get me to stop driving their cars, or having them drive me around. there HAS to be a cheaper way to do this. ??? anything? even possibly bending myself?? are there any CHEAP benders out there to do this??
what the hell kinda headers are you buying for 520.....i just payed 100 for a slightly used pair of fenderwell headers and i bought the other headers that go in the frame rails for 90 new off summit....theres not a 430 dollar difference between headers dude you should of searched.....plus go to summit and get a exhaust kit...pipes already bent ands only 170

Yeah they fit quite nicely. the only prob i had was that i had to re bend my tranny lines. I would rather do that any day over notching any structeral parts. When i got out later today ill get the Flowtech part number and post it up.

when i blew my tranny, because of the headers and related x-member notch, the mechanic spent over a week trying to get the x-member out. long story short he had to cut it in half and weld it back together! i now have the proper headers on my truck, so if i find a good one i'll replace the x-member.
