Different types of blowers have different characteristics. A centrifugal type always makes the most HP per psi, but the lowest torque numbers also. A centri is a poor choice for this application, because there is almost nothing to gain at the lower hallf of the RPM range, it's all on the top end. That just isn't where most guys with V-10's want the improvments.
A turbo gives the most gains in this application, but tends to cost more, and be more complicated to install. 8PSI with a correctly sized turbo, is like 12PSI on a centri.

No, I really hate spending the big bucks. Its not that I can't, I just don't like to do it. I much prefer to build it myself, hence the appeal of the turbo system. I can fab the system myself and get it exactly like I want.
I was thinking of modifying my existing crank to make it a stroker, not have a new one made from scratch. I'm sure there are quite a few people who could handle that, but $1000 may still be too low.

Anyhow, I just like turbos better. Anybody can bolt on a supercharger (theoretically anyhow), but a turbo setup shows off your fabrication ability. That, and I like the turbo whistle I used to get with my diesel. I used to be able to maintain speed without ever looking at the speedo cause I got so used to the turbo whistling at certain pitch at certain speed.

im not so sure on the centri being a poor choice the v10 already likes to be higher in the rpm range so you really dont see the bottom rpms often i dont see low rpms anytime except driving down the freeway otherwise i would have to pull my foot out of it to see the rpms where there is no boost hahaha

Ive looked at paxton and vortech at $5k & $7k respectively. Ive seen single turbo DIY installs for under $2k. Bump that to $3k and I think a very respectible single or cheap twin setup could be done. I'm not looking for MASSIVE power like the mustang guys, just a good solid increase over stock. I'm thinking a pair of buick GNX style turbos could be had on the cheap, keep the boost to 6-8 psi until I can get the forged pistons and rods. The GNX turbo fed a 3.8L, so a pair would be able to feed 7.6L, more than enough for a 6.8L and my requirements.

I'll be doing all the work myself except possibly the tuning side of it. I'll have to look for a cost benefit ratio of buying the software to tune myself or let someone else do it. I think if I was going for a max effort, 1/4 mile demon, I would let someone else do the tuning, but for my needs, I can get it done myself. Plus having the software makes the next turbo build even cheaper.
Remember that 71 mustang convertible I was talking about earlier... I was originally going to go 4.6 or 5.4 DOHC with it, but now knowing I'm just 4+ inches longer than those mills, I can fit a v10 in there and still have room for a turbo setup. Now talk about an unusal build, not everbody is doing swaps like that. Ever seen the hood on the 71-73's? Lets just say I could probably get a v12 in there with little modification.
It seems to me I saw a magazine car, Mercury Grand Marquis that someone had swapped in a 99 v10 and had a remote mount turbo on it that ran low 10's. May have been twins on it, can't remember, but that was the only mod to the engine was the turbo or turbos. I think they were running the stock tranny too! I'm sure that didn't last long.
