um...the only bad things about that is....

1. people would actually buy it

2. it would probably work like a ****

they are using proven tech from their Hino branch...and they make quite a few medium duty trucks around the world...funny they went with an Allison tranny though...they rumored that it would come with a Cat engine...but I thought that CAT was staying out of the light truck wars?

ah well...like I said, you will have brand-loyal people going to them if they do build a heavy duty...but that is where the ORIGINAL big three will always reign supreme...personally I would go with a damn Dodge Cummins over that Toyota...

And lastly, competition is good for progress...eventually the consumer will be the winner, I hope.

That thing is FUGLY! I've had better colors come out of, well, you get the idea. I guess they were trying to copy the KR interior. They failed miserably.

But as stated, people will buy it and will claim it is the best thing since sliced bread.

I'm surprised that the diesel is 'only' rated at 300/600. With the hp/tq wars going on with the diesels, I'm a little disappointed with Yota on that one. Especially since they introduced thier 381 hp 5.7L motor.

Oh well, more power to them. I guess we should expect to see it around 2009 or so.

I like it. Not that I would ever buy one. But I think it looks good. Hopefully they cured that bed bounce issue...

It's not a wanna-be it's a gonna-be.
Sad, but Toyota has raised the bar but I will stick with my Ford.

I am a ford guy but I like this truck. I like the looks and mostly like the manual trans. I know that 95% of the world wants auto but 5% still prefer to get a truck with manual trans and all the other options, not an XL model with vinyl. Toyota and NIssan are proactive and listening to what customers want, not just there own brand loyal customers but customers like us that complain about what our great Fords do not have. I have owned 3 Ford Trucks and to be honest I am not sure what I will buy next time. Ford makes tough trucks but the competition is making the same. Ford needs to get off there high horse and quit marketing the toughest truck for 35 years and put some of those dollars into giving us the toughest truck out there. I love my 06' F-150 and I think it is a workhorse but I don't think it is the toughest 1/2 ton on the road. May have a solid frame, but the body is cheap, engine is sluggish and desperately needs a 5 or 6 speed tranny. Enough venting.

Now throw rocks as you may, but I owned one Toyter in my life, and between myself, my wife, and two kids we put over 400,000 miles on that rig. Granted when I sold it ( for 300 bucks ) it looked like hammered dog poo. But it still started, and ran. Yes, we did some repairs and a top end on the engine, and a bit of tranny work, but we also ran that little truck like we stole it.

But, I like my Fords!

I think it looks a bit ugly, but for some reason it looks like a fun drive, esp with that gear shifter there. It could use a bit more power though.

Outside: Looks like a dodge
Inside: looks like a dirty diaper
Conclusion: Toyota is the smartest automaker in the world. If they build it, it will sell like hotcakes in february.

if it weren't a shortbed it might be worth my while....and I could do without the diamond plate bedliner. I approve of everything else.

I would never own a Toyota, but I do like the fact that they are putting 5 speeds in it. I agree with the guy that posted above, my only gripe with Ford trucks now are that they don't have a manual tranmission in their 1/2 tons thats worth anything.
