My truck has an intermittent vibration and noise from the front end sounds like the drivers side. The problem goes away when put into 4wd. It has auto locking hubs. 99 f350 v10. Are the hubs most likely the problem?
when a hub is not locked in, the axle end spins freely inside of that needle bearing. Unfortunately, these needle bearings sometimes run dry of grease. First the bearing goes bad, and then it starts to damage the axle.
When a hub is locked it, the axle is no longer spinning inside of that needle bearing --- it is rotating with the wheel/hub/etc; therefore, the no damage is being done then
