In reviewing this great article, the addition of the door entry key pad has my interest.

http://www.svtlightnings.com/svt/how...ad_install.htm

What features is the author of this article talking about??

I know----I know but I ordered the handle and key pad anyway.

Can you be more specific?

It's a long article and even if I was a speed reader, I'd have to guess what features that are listed in the article you might be referring to.

What exactly about that keypad are you inquiring about?

I guess it's about "How does the key-pad work" exactly.

Is the only feature is that I punch in a series of numbers and the door un-locks... is that all? The way the author of the article was going on..... and he did mention all the features..etc.

Yes.

There is a master five digit number that operates the keypad. The end user can also enter their own five digit number if they so choose, but that temporary number can be changed or erased whenever the user wishes. The master five digit number can never be changed or erased.

The keypad will unlock the drivers side door after punching in the five digit master number, or the temporary number the end user has set up.

After either five digit number has been entered, pushing the 3/4 button will unlock the passenger door.

You can also lock all the doors by pushing the 7/8 button and the 9/0 button at the same time.

I think it was the '01 model year that Ford started putting those door handles in the L's.

Did I understand correctly and was I able to answer your questions?

I take it you're not familiar with a keyless entry system?

Its easy (and it makes ya look smart too...but you know what they say, looks are deceiving! LOL!) when the questions that are asked, you know already know the answers to!

I'm still a neophyte on a lot of the more hard core tech.

And yes, never used or had a keyless entry system.
I should be a detective, eh?

Stewart,....on to the door lock ---maybe?

Could you give me a hand in knowing whats ahead of me now ?

I have the door pnl off......... I need to replace the drivers door locking module, it's worn out and (just will) push the door lock button up & down at times.

It looks like it's a matter of removing the 3 outside bolts but there's a few rod's and stuff connected there also. !!!

Do you happen to have a schematic on that?

Is this what you're asking for? If not, let me know and I'll check for some different ones.
  1. Disconnect the actuating rods.
    1. If equipped disconnect the actuating rod from the lock cylinder.
    2. Release the locking clip.
    3. Disconnect the exterior door handle actuating rod from the front door latch.

  1. Remove the screws and position the front door latch aside.
    • Discard the screws.

  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

Hope that helped.
