spark plugs"gap bridged""""""""

hello, i just did a tune up on my truck. It is a 1988 f-250hd 351 4x4. And anyway, i took the plugs out i noticed that the back two on the drivers side had a black carbon on them and i looked it up on a haynes manual and it look like the one that says gapped bridge. this truck has sat for three years and it appeared to have the stock wires still, but it had autolite plugs. any way ? is whats up with this and what can i do to fix this. and what caused this and how to prevent.......it seems to be better in idle and power. oh and they smelled of gas, i assume from not firing...

Are you speaking of the NEW plugs from after you did the tune-up? Or the old ones that came out when you did the tune-up?

Then I wouldn't worry about it. You probably just had some real old/bad plugs and wires. If it happens again real soon then I'd be worried. Just check the plugs for being fouled every few months to make sure. Come a year from now, if they still look real nice then you're home free

yea they were problay really old and worn out, i have been meaning to change them for a while..the truck only has 87000 mile, but these miles are very hard miles, the truck would sit for a week or so then go ***** to the wall, and i am sure that is not good to do. but i guess thats what i get for buying a old fire truck. i got a good deal but i am getting tired of working on it. but i think i see the truck starting to emerge(finally)............
