The new guy says HI!

Hey ya'll,

Bought my 08 a few months ago and decided to get on the web and see what people were saying about their new 6.4's. Fortunately I found this site and have enjoyed reading all the posts.

I have a dually-crewcab and haul around an 11'-6" Lance (4400 lbs dry) and tow an 18' boat (3800 lbs). I used to haul this load with a 1999 F350 SRW with the V10. I loved my V10!! I didn't like the instability of the SRW though. I decided that since I only put 7-10,000 miles per year on the rig, I would get the 6.4. I am here to tell you that the power from this engine is unbelievable! I have to pull a major grade coming home from bass camp. I was amazed the first time I came up that hill with this truck. I had the cruise set at 65 mph and she shifted down to 4th, the turbos spooled up to approx. 37-38 psi, and flew up that hill. I would have been in 3rd (manual tranny) struggling to hold 55 mph with the ol' V10.

Mods? Why? Sometimes our manly ways can effect logical judement, haha. I see no reason to change anything about this rig, it has all the power I will ever need.

Look forward to visiting with ya'll.

I have a few questions for you. I am still trying to decide which truck to order. I have an 05 F350 Dually now.
What gear ratio did you get, what's your mpg not towing? Why did you pick a F350 instead of the F450?

I have the 4X4 with 3.73's. I only have around 2500 miles on the truck right now, but this is what I have seen for mileage. Running around empty I am seeing anywhere from 14-17 mpg. When I'm loaded down I am averaging around 11 mpg.

Originally I had planned on getting the F450, but I would've only gained about 500 lbs of payload over the F350. My main concern was to be able to haul my slide-in camper safely. With that said, I know damn good and well that I am still overweight. I'm just not as overweight as I was with the SRW.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I have some usefull info for anyone considering purchasing a dually. If you want chrome or aluminum wheels....bend over and pay. I thought I was being smart by ordering the standard steel wheels with the intention of buying some nice aftermarket aluminum wheels. WELLL, nobody makes them yet!

I have been looking at all the stainless steel wheel skins that are available online, but I would really like to see what these things look like in person rather than a picture. Does anyone have any experience with the stainless wheel skins?

that's just friggin stupid...get a bike, you think Ford is going to sell these fuel hogs when fuel is 3.50-4.50$ a gal. and 12 MPG, which is coming soon to an area know as USA.
Uh, isn't the SD factory closed as I speak. No my fellow kahuna, I think I've had it with that attitude.

I put a set of them on my 02 chebby dually. They looked alright. Much better than the stock steel which is all that you could get on the chebby. When I was looking for that truck all I found was Alcoa, but they are expensive.
