Schaeffer's oil anybody?

Anybody here running Schaeffer's 7000 (15W40 blend) or 9000 (5W40 full synthetic) oil? Rotella 5W40 didn't work out for me but I was wondering if anybody was running this stuff and if they had any oil anaylsis after running it? I have consistantly had higher than average iron readings in the 5 UOA I have done and would like to get it to go away.

Schaffers s what we run in the farm equipment. We get a good deal on it. I run schaffers fuel anti-gel treatment in my truck. I would switch to synthetic If I was you bud. Who does your oilo analysis?

Blackstone does my Analysis. I already tried the rotella 5w40 sythetic but went through too much oil using that stuff. and my result came back just as bad.

can't some truck stops do a oil anaylis and if so how good is it at telling you how worn out your engine is?

quite possibly. I already knew I have more blowby than I should and #6 fails a contirbution test. i don't know if its from my turbo destruction or if it was like that when I bought the truck. Either way it still runs good and starts fine even in the cold. blackstone said not to worry about the high iron. its still not in the alarm category just higher than the average. I like to be below average for some things!

here is a link to my UOA

UOA can tell you if your engine is shot but it is much better to use it to get a baseline before you have problems then you can watch for trends. Like elevated fuel or coolant in the oil, wear metals getting higher....

If its used as maintence then it becomes much better for diagnostic as you can see trends starting or catch problems early.

Good point Tim I have never done one but since you put it that way I may do it. I assume at oil change time. Inever thought about a baseline when all is good.

The 9000 is real good stuff.
On the failed cont test. Dont over rule a bad hole. It could be injector related.

cylinder contribution is done with a scan tool, it shuts down 1 cylinder at a time and looks for the cam sensor signal to change, if they all dont change within a spec the computer will pop a failed cylinder number

normaly on a 7.3 it leads to a injector, but in tims case it is possibly a wasted jug, but not guranteed, a compression test is needed to see that much. tim has a lot of miles on top of a turbo that just ate itself so you cant rule out the bottom end till the compression test is done,

Thanks Bill. Do you use the 9000 oil?

Also I am hoping for an injector issue. I will find out when I put my stage 1's in ( if I ever get them built!) I will also be doing a compression test while I am in there and I am contemplate a set of 910-16 valve springs.
