what did you do b4 it happened?

here's my crazy story: pulling a stump with my 02 7.3l F350 dually few years back, had to use the ****** strap and the last big yank lifted the rear of the truck when roots finally gave up. Then the fuel gauge stuck on full. Took to dealer, guy calls me back in a few hours showing me a brand new unit. Said "yours looked just like this, with the float wrapped around the wire, which is how they come shipped."

Evidently the force of pulling out the stump with a half-tank of diesel was enough to cause the float to wrap itself up. So - maybe the drive-over-a-bump method would work, assuming that's what caused problem in the first place.

Simple, unplug the harness from the tank, if gauge drops you have a bad sending unit. If it doesn't you have a grounded wire or a faulty gauge.

After doing the Harpoon Mod, my gauge only goes to 1/2 a tank. Full is full but if it is reading 1/2 a tank, it it empty. One day I'll pull the sender out to see what is what.

so there is a separate wiring plug for the sending unit? I just disconnect it and see what happens?

Old post but I am back on board with another V10 so I'll say it was because I didn't keep enough gas in the tank and that burns out the sending unit. I did it in a Chevy as well after.... I'll see if I can keep this one above 1/4 tank!
