"Piston Slap" Sound?

Sup Guys,

I just had my "free" oil change done at my dealer. Ever since that, I think the dealer may have over filled the truck with oil.

Now I hear this weird "slap" sound when the engine is running. If anyone has baked a cake......as you are mixing the batter it makes this weird flop/slap kinda sound, almost like that. It seems to be coming from the bottom of the engine.

I checked the oil level right when i turned it off and it showed "max". I turned it off and I will see what it reads in 20-30min to allow for all the oil to run down.

They put 15w40 in there and on the invoice I got back it said "6.0" kit. I'm assuming the kit for the 6.0 (oil filter and gasket) are the same for the 6.4. According to the motorcraft site, they seem to be.

It took them 20min to do the oil change. I don't think that's enough time for all the oil to drain back down so I'm thinking if they didn't let it drain, they added 15 quarts + w/e is in the engine that didn't have a chance to drain back into the pan.

Thanks for any info!

I just checked my oil level after having it sit for 30min. It was above the gray part of the dip stick, and about 4/16th or 5/16th of an inch on the metal part of the dip stick.

I guess I'm going to drain about 1/2 to a quart of oil, re-check it on the dip stick and see if the sound goes away.

Take it back to the dealer. You have a lot better chance finding out whats going on if someone can actually hear it instead of you describing it on the internet. If they over filled it they need to get some out. Overfill is not good.

I drained about 3/4-1 of a quart of oil out this morning. The dip stick now reads where it says "max" instead of over it like it was before. From what I have read on here, 15 quarts should read "max" on the dip stick.

The sound is still there, and shows up after the engine is warmed up.

I don't have time to be going back to the dealer and to be honest, they are getting on my nerves. With some other issue I had ('tards at the plant forgot the dip stick gasket), I'm not too impressed with their (the dealers) abilities. Whoever was filling the truck spilled oil all over the freaken place, I even have oil stains all over the side of my drivers tire, on the front part of the frame and all over the brake hoses on driver side front tire. When I first noticed it, I thought I was leaking brake fluid and it had sprayed everywhere.

I'm trying to avoid them at all cost but, if the sound doesn't go away until Thursday, I will be taking it back (That's the only day I have free).

Serves me right for going in for my "free" oil change.

Sounds like it's time to go in there and raise some heck with the service manager...... or find a new dealer
