i have a 2000 f-450 that after sitting for the weekend will not start, the truck starts fine if sitting overnight. but runs if you hold the key in the start position. when you let go the truck dies. after about 20 tries it runs but sounds like its only firing on 4 cylinders and after a couple minutes it catches all 8 cylinders. the glow plugs were replaced a week ago, and the intake heater was also replaced at the same time.
Did you have the same issue before the GP's were replaced? If not, maybe some of the connections are loose at the valve covers. Single connector for both GP's and injectors. Check at both valves covers. If those seem OK, the wiring under the valve cover may have been cut for one/more GP and/or injector.
how far was it driven after the GP replacement? Who did the GP's? I am thinking two things
1. while replacing the GP's the UVC harness was knocked loose and you are not getting a good connection.
2. The mechanic inadvertantley drained the oil galley or the fuel galley on one of the heads and you have air in the rail(which would give you the romp-romps like it was running on 4 cylinders)
I'm with bdrummonds, there is air in the fuel lines somehow and if it only sits for a couple of hours or overnight you are ok but if it sits over the weekend you are getting more air in the lines therefore won't run look for a leak or drip?
