Where on earth is it........

It... being a 1960 to 1975 F100/250/350 crew cab 4x4 that is still in its fixer stage but has a working motor and running gear, that somebody is willing to part with. I am rustling every bush I can, but so far have come up empty handed. If someone out there has a lead and is willing to share, please let me know.

You have a much better chance of finding a '73/4/5 club cab. The early crew cabs were mostly special order by fleet purchasers. The Rail Road, different construction companies, the forest service, mines over in Nevada, and the like.

These sort of buyers were not interested in creature comforts, they were after longevity and cost. Most of these trucks didn't even have a radio, and one I looked at in Nevada didn't even have a factory installed defroster/heater.

But they do show up once in a while. And some have been rebuilt into real nice rides. If it were me I would sign up on Ebay and have their search engine email me when ever one was listed.

You could also join our group and post a "wanted" ad in our chapter. And don't forget the FTE national classifieds.

You could also find a good standard pickup of the correct series, and mount the cab from the one you found on its chassis. You would have to extend the frame, but that is not as big a deal as it sounds.

Be sure to check out our bumpside and dentside forums. One member picked up a nice crewcab bumpside several months ago off of Ebay. And we have another member, don't recall his name but he lives here in Calif. up in the Sierra foothills I think, who was trying to sell one without much success. I'll see if I can find that...

Did you look in our classifieds? Not the buy/sell thread in this forum but the FTE classifieds...

Too bad though, my local wrecking yard had a pretty decent one, complete except for the wheels and tires. Didn't look like it would take much to get it going. It went to the crusher a few months ago...

It's going to be a tough hunt, but the payoff should be worth the wait. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, the thing about Mike, who owns the yard, is that he's not sentimental about his cars. When they've sat for long enough without many parts being sold, it's time for them to go to the crusher to make room for more. And in all fairness, he got that one on a vehicle amnesty and couldn't have sold it whole anyway.

I'm still not having any luck finding the member who was selling one about 6 or 8 months back...

Why the cut off at 75? If I wanted a highboy, I'd want a 76-77 with open knuckle disc brakes.

Finding a 2WD and putting it on a 4x4 is a great idea, and is what I would most likely do, but I need to use the truck right away. Appreciate the ideas though. I haven't quite got the motions down to use Craigs list very efficiently, but thanks again...

'75 is the last year that does not require smog tests.
