ZF5 2wd or 4wd

I just aquired a 88 F-Superduty with a 460 this evening with a spare zf5 transmission. The transmission came out of a 7.3 Superduty. I havnt gotten a chance to really look at it cuz its dark but my question is can a 2 wheel drive transmission have a tailshaft swapped out to be made to bolt to a transfer case. I've been reading about how easy it is to put a zf5 into a 79 and thats what i wanna use this transmission for.Either that or sell it and buy one that is for a 4-wheel drive if the cant be CONVERTED. I do understand the gear ratios are different in a the diesel and gas transmissions but i think i could manage with that. Thanks guys.

If your 450 has a trans mounted parking brake, then it has a 4wd extension housing. I heard someone say that the mainshafts are different between the 2wd and 4wd.

It does have a transmission mounted brake. Thats what im thinking it is. Something that kinda looks like a torque convertor with a yoke coming out of the back. I'll try it for the heck of it i guess

Any luck with that transmission? I have a 2wd zf5 I want to switch out to 4x4. I was hoping to just change the tailpice but I did notice the main shaft on a 4x4 zf is about 1 inch longer. Am I going to have to get a hole transmission to make the switch to 4x4?
