I finally finished putting an EZ locker in my 9inch last night after having the truck down for 2 weeks. I started driving down the road and the locker just kept ratcheting. I got up to around 40 mph and everytime it clicked the back of the truck would jurk to one side and then the other. I am really wondering what I could have did wrong that would make that locker keep ratcheting like that in a straight line. I am getting very frusterated.
I have 31 inch tires on right now. I backed the brakes off and nothing changed. I took it out and inspected it and everything appeared correct. Im thinking maybe I have an incorrect washed on the side gears but I measured it and it was within specs. I just don't know
Actually measure the diameter of your tires it may say 31's but it varies from the manufacturer they could be 30 1/4" tires, Or one could be taller than the other due to being produced on different days. It is worth a shot before tearing it back down.
They tires are maybe 50% and I just took them off the front so they could very well be different diameters. Would that little bit of tire size difference cause that big of a problem though? I didn't know EZ lockers were that touchy.
I put 2 of my winter tires on the back and although it doesn't ratchet as much....it still does. I spun the tires on gravel and it didn't ratchet like crazy like it did with my Kumho's on. I'll check the brakes one more time and precisely measure the tires. We might be making some progress here.
I took it out for the 3rd time after reading an article on here about locker installations. I took a look at the side gears, and judging by the pictures I seen on here, they appear to be worn out...causing my locker not to function. Do any companies sell just the side gears?
> Would that little bit of tire size difference cause that big of a problem though
No, something else is wrong. If you said 38s or something I would say measure the diameter to make sure both are exactly the same.

E-Bay. There is a ton of stuff including people selling 3rd members already set up with lockers or all the individual parts. I would imagine Summit Racing and Reider sell them too.

Gave the Drivetrain Doctors a call and the tech there told me to add roughly a .014-.020inch washer on the side gear and it could solve my problem. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
the washers and or side gears are going to be to worn and the gears arnt getting forced together because of the extra play. You will have to track down some used side gears or get new ones. If you have a drivetrain shop near where you live I would check with them first, sometimes they have used gears that they pull out for customers who want lockers and they will usually let you have them for next to nothing.
