Easy Question

I'm changing the oil in my differential (96 F150 3.55 open) and I want to know how much fluid to put in. A Mustang forum suggested 2 quarts to an 8.8 but that sounds low and I don't want to put in too little and have to pick up more. Please help me out, how many quarts do I need?

Yeah I know that but I don't want to buy two quarts and not have enough, and I don't want to buy four or five and have too much... I'm just looking for an idea

I see the quantity required to be 5.5P to 5.8P. That would be just over 2.5 quarts to 2.75 quarts. Looks like if you buy three, you will have enough, with a little extra. 2 will not be enough.
Trucks have the pinion pointed a litlle higher than the Mustang guys, so i believe that truck axles can, or have to take on alittle more fluid.
Anyway book says trucks require 5.5 to 5.8 pints.
Good luck.
