Hi, there has been a 1991 explorer sitting down the road for over a year. It has not been started in that long it's been thru last years northeast usa winter. It was running before. What do I look for (any major problems)to see if it is any good or even worth the trouble. Thanks
It will probably fire right up. My 92 did after sitting for 3 years. I just had to replace the battery. Get it started, and then check the compression. Check for any funny noises, rattles or leaks as well. Also, if you can, drive it and see if the tranny slips at all. Check the 4x4 if it has it as well as the hubs.
Check for water leaks, in case it didn't have enough antifreeze in it. This could result in a cracked block at which point in may not be worth repairing. Compression check is a great idea. Best way to get to the passenger side plugs is through the wheel well.
Nah, I wouldn't worry too much about it if you are just firing it up for the first time. Of course you will need to check them all, but I wouldn't change them until you have it running first. It has only been sitting for a year.
Marragtop, it is usually the head that cracks. The 4.0 is a stout motor provided you do not overheat it and crack the heads.
