'51 F2 Bed Floor and Crossmember Questions...

My '51 F2's bed floor is non-existent. The front of the bed has a 3 X 3 block of lumber, for a crossmember, the rear seems right. No other crossmembers or nuttin'.

Does anyone have a picture of their bed with crossmembers but before wood installation? I see the short bed crossmembers, imagine they'd work, or could be made to work (??) but I don't even know how many the long bed had. I'm not restoring, so I could even fab something to work, if I could see what it looked like originally...

Pictures, anyone? Advice??

Thanks in advance,

R

All the F-2 and F-3 beds had wood crossmembers unlike the steel used on the F-1's.

I copied the original ones and made them out of 2x4's.

YEEEEHAAAAW! THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!!!

Man, what a place...

Thanks so much, I had seen one picture, small, with what looked like wooden crossmembers, but didn't realize that's how it was SUPPOSED to be!

Shouldn't be any problem, now...

Thanks again!

Now, to go steal some 2 X 4's....

My F2 bed supports are gone. I see the link to the picture above, but I could not view the image. Can you repost please?

Roger, that is a nice slide show you've got started.
I think I'm going to do the same sort of thing as soon as I turn the corner and begin putting my F2 back together.
I just had a welding shop rebuild the whole lower framework of my 8' foot bed and I'm using steel cross braces and a diamond plate floor. I'll probably lay an oak 'show' bed on top of it if the truck comes out nice enough and if more $$$ becomes available.

Tom thanks, I haven't worked on it for a few years - finances, health, family...you get the idea. I'm looking forward to getting back on it this year.

I have tried to find all the bed support pics I have, and found a few - I will post them here, and hope they help someone.
