Interested in a 08-09 F150 4x4 or Chevy Avalanche LTZ. Thoughts?

Hi folks, I am new to this site but I would like to chime in here. I have a 98 Ford F150 Off Road Package 3rd door 50th anniversary truck. Black and Tan accents. I love the truck bought it in 99 with 30 k miles however I am about to come up on 112k miles and I am starting to look at the new trucks. I almost bought a leftover 06 FX4 then an off the shelf 07 FX4 but I kept hearing about the redesign in 08. Now I have seen the White Limited F150 and the 08 HarleyDavidson with the Saleen SC and I have to say other then nice paint and interior I am not seeing a lot of change from 04 on. Am I missing anything here? I recognize there have been leaps in quality etc from 98 but I am not really up to speed on the projected changes to the F 150 as I spend most of my time in Mustang forums because my toy is an 04 Saleen. I will say the Chevy Avalanche LTZ Package has also peaked my interest. Trust me I bleed Ford Blue, I have had 2 Saleen Mustangs, 2 Explorers, A mustang GT, A ranger and even a Ford Probe GT (dont get me started on that :0) I do not go through cars and trucks I had my last Saleen for 15 years and this one is a 04 my Wifes Explorer we had for 5 years etc so when I buy this next version of F150 or the Avalanche I will have it awhile.
If you can offer feedback on both vehicles that would be great.

Thank you .

The redesign is coming next year, as an '09 model. It should be out about 10-11 months from now, and should be revealed in January at the Detroit auto show. Word is the 6.2L V8 won't be out until 6-12 months after that though.

The '08's just had a few changes and option additions (rear-view camera, bed storage, Lariat Limited, etc.).

Not much news is out about the '09's yet. A few that have been noted on the board:
1) Elimination of rear doors on regular cab
2) 6" longer cab and front doors on super crew
3) New interior and front end from the dash forward
4) New exterior looks
5) Tailgate step
6) Step just behind the cab to reach into the back of the truck
7) Trailer brake controller (yessssss!!!)

Personally, I would pick the Ford over the Avalanche as I prefer Ford's interiors over everyone else's. Also, I tow a travel trailer, and I feel the heavier frame of the F150 is better suited for that. But in the end, you need to drive them both and buy what you like best.

If you can wait a year, I bet Ford will make some great improvements with the '09.

I hope they deliver the 6.2 quicker than 6-12 months later, I think a new engine is just as much needed as a redesign. Although my brother has an 07 and that is a pretty awesome truck, just doesn't feel very powerful( He got beat by our older brothers 01' 5.4 by a couple of truck lenghts). But I can't wait for the new 09' to be unveiled

Thanks, Yes I was surprised that the 5.4 only had 300 hp not sure on torque but yet you can get both the the Ram 1500 with the Hemi and the Silverado/Avalanche (although most go wtith the 5.3 motor I think it has 315Hp models) with at least 360 hp so Ford does need to pick that up. I dont know if I can wait another year at this point. The 98 is getting a little long in the tooth. I will see.

I know what you're saying, you want a truck and you want it now!

Good luck,

ya the hp numbers are a little low and the ft/lbs is 365...i have the 5.4 in a f250...imagine how i feel...lol...its my everyday driver and dont tow at all with it but if i could do it over again i would not have gotten the 5.4, but instead the 6.8...throw a 6.8 in the f150 and then lets see who has the numbers...lol...by the way, why dont they offer the v10 in the f150...who cares about MPG when you ave that bad boy under the hood...i drove my dads f350 CC dually today and man o man was that v10 fun...lol...i would say stick it out and wait for the 2009 f150, but then again do you want the first year model with the new engine? i would say sell the wifes vehicles and buy a 2008 f450 king ranch and call it a day

That's a good question, I thought I heard of another varient of the 6.2, but who knows. If the numbers are as good as speculated the 6.2 would do just fine in the sd.

How about taking a 5.4 and bolting a Saleen Supercharger on it? That is what they are doing with the Harley Davidson trucks as well as the Saleen S331 that they sell, although they have not come out with a 4x4 version yet. I am sure 450HP and over 400lbs of torque will get you all giddy upped..:0) I may look into that.
Where is the best place to look for an 07 left over FX4 crew cab ? Loaded out?
Thanks for your help. I am really liking this site

If you go to Ford's site, you will be able to configure a vehicle like you want, then search dealers in your area for a truck similar. Or call you local dealer and they can try to locate the truck you are looking for.

Good luck! Ain't truck buying fun!!

Oh yeah, almost forgot...welcome to the forum!!

I know out here in az, there are plenty of 07's left. I'd just check your local dealer or build on ford's site like said above.
