I have an 05 F150 5.4 Triton 4X4 Engine is missing and cylinder 5 misfire code appears on code reader. hard to start 'sometimes' misses badly 'sometimes' engine light flashes 'sometimes' truck is a piece of crap 'always' has never had remotely near the power my 01 triton had doesn't pull well at all recreational boat camper etc. gets lousy milage 12-13 ford has tryed reburning eprom but no help truck is out of warrenty at 50k and i am out of patience with ford will never own another would love to unload this one but need to fix it first any ideas?
Every problem you just described is likely caused by the misfire. You make it sound like the truck is a lemon but if you just take time to fix the misfire, you'd realize how good your truck really is. Could be as simple as a plug going bad. You know what cylinder is acting up, so replace the plug in that cylinder or have the dealer do it for you. At least that is what I would do.
Read follow up post have been to 3 local dealers the '100000 mile plugs' HAVE been changed Almost $200.00 for a set of plugs. coils @ $60.00 each have also been changed eprom reburnt with latest config Ford told me for 40k that milage and performace were "in spec" check engine light has been on since 42K 2 mechs in town that i trust wont even mess with it. Truck stickered at 38 thousand dollars I put a leveling kit and 35" tires on it a grill gaurd an air intake hood scoop billit grill bed liner tinted windows camo trim. traded in a good truck and cash down owe 20k and some change want it for 21k?
You have 35" tires, did you regear to compensate for the taller tires? If not, no wonder you have no power. You can't put taller & wider tires on a truck and expect it to preform the way it would stock. The taller tires could be causing a fault that makes the check engine light come on.
All mods came from dealer smallest tires ive ever had on a truck were 33" and i am talking about about a 15 foot boat 16 foot travel trailer and a tiny john deere 790 tractor (not all at the same time)
the check engine light is from the misfire next step is going through the injector system its just that all these "trys" are at my expense they never suggested these under warrenty
Sounds like you have a single undiagnosed problem that is probably minor. Why would you change all the plugs and coils when you have a misfire on one cylinder? I found out long ago that when you have a problem, you do one thing at a time until you correct the problem. If you several things at once, you risk messing something else up and having multiple problems. That can drive you up the wall.
step one plugs, changed all for fords recomendation
step 2 coil packs I replaced 2 cyl 5 and 1 had a 1 misfire code one time
i believe the code is 0305 and once had a 0301
recently got a to lean code bank 2 thats why i am going to have them go through the injectors
I am grasping here guys but i have deer season opening next week and a lease 150 miles south I have a 30 thousand dollar truck and have to borrow a rig to pull my travel trailer down.
sorry about the attitude just aggrevated
does the flashing check engine light mean anything this is new and also intermitent
by the way Last week for 2 days check engine light went off and ran fine came back with a vengence and just started the flashing thing?
Let me start by saying that I don't even try to work on this late model
stuff too much. That being said, I have a faint memory of someone mentioning that their engine was not grounded properly (on a Nissan) and that it messed with the overall electrical system. With all of the electronics on these modern vehicles that could be a problem. Just a quick search on google and I came up with this. I am not affiliated with this company at all. Just use it (and their statement) as a starting point.

..Why not?
12/13mpg isn't that bad for 35's. I am running 305/65/18's and get between 13 - 15. Driving style has a lot to do with it. Re-gear if you want it to get better.

i had the same problem with my 98 5.4 the check engine light for the lean conditon is most likely from a clogged fuel filter the one down on the frame and if the filter is plugged that bad then there might be a piece of dirt that got through to the injector i know this is what happend to me and dont change the injectors till you change that fuel filter that will only fix the problem short term till another piece of dirt gets in there and you be mad all over again
