I live here in Georgia where I purchased my 2004 Expedition Eddie Baur with the 5.4L V8. It had 47,000 miles when I got it and it was complimentarily serviced by the dealer. EDIT: Forgot to mention the truck is not at 55,000 miles since I got it in April. Now that you know the background:
I'm planning to go up to Wisconsin for about two weeks in December or January to visit some friends. It's like a 3200 mile round trip or something like that. Can't remember, but anyways during this time last year it was -20F with windchill. This is definitely a southern truck, even running thinner oil (not 10w-30, but maby it was 5w-30?) Whatever that one step thinner is. How can I prepare this thing for a cold run? It doesn't have an engine block heater, but it would be in a garage, so maby I could cover up the engine hood and keep it warm enough to run. It has a new set of all terrain tires, so I think that, plus some chains my friend gave me that fits them, I'm good in that department.
I purchased my 05 when I was in Houston. I"m in MN now. I have done no mods to the truck. It is kept in an unheated garage and I have had no problems---even when it was -23f with no wind chill.

Just let it warm up& you'll be fine.
PS. they suck in the snow w/o 4x4
Thx for the post, it's nice to get info from someone in the colder areas. So you think it will be fine without any modifications? I'm hoping I won't ahve to go through much snow...but hey, snowed in just you and your girlfriend, what's really so wrong about that.
I guess it wouldn't be a winter vehicle preparation thread without someone from the Canadian Prairies chiming in.
I usually just test my antifreeze to see what cold temp I'm good to. I usually go to a 0W-30 in January and Febuary seeing those are the coldest months up here. Check block heater plug and check the heater itself to see if it's still working. Check tire tread depth and pressures.
Both my truck and Expy have been rock solid thru the winter and cut thru 2 feet of snow with ease.

What do you recommmend for antifreeze? The antifreeze was last topped off at 24000 miles. I believe it would probably be good to have a full flush before I go wouldn't it?
