62 f250 longbed unibody ????MOTOR?????
Hello all, this is my first time asking a question. My wife and I bought a 62 unibody ,fair condition, a little cancer, nothing I can't handle. Well almost, reading thru the forums here and there, I realized the engine I thought was a 292 is an FE motor?!
Now here is my puzzle. The intake manifold(4brl)and exhaust manifold are from a 66 galaxie 500,intake # C6AE 9425-G, exaust # C6AE 9430A. Im thinking this could be good, 390 or maybe even a 427. The motor #C7M?A and nothing else.
So i did the screw driver down the #1 spark plug and got a measurement of 3 3/4 of an inch, so maybe its a 360. However I also read about the 427 having a side oiler. Please help with motor# and if that perplexes you also how about some visual aids. I've just about got the front clip off lots of room to look may have to tear down the motor to get a good look see. thanks scotty
PS Custom cab crome package up for trades, also driver's side door pocket.

You definitly have a 390, 406, or 427. That we know form the stroke. While none of them are sloatches the 406 would be cool not alot of those around. And the 427 would be way cool cuase you got the potential for some serious motor there. But, the cast code indicates it can literally be any engine from a 330MD truck motor to a 428 and anything in between. The info I have doesn't prove that a 427 was ever cast with that cast code. The cast code also say it is for the mercury line of cars. Originally designed in 67 for merc.
If it is a side oiler the only way I know for sure to tell is on the back of the block there will be a plug for the side oiling sytem. As noted before if it is cross bolted it will eleminate the 390. But 406's and many 427's have cross bolts. Not all 406's have x bolts but most all have bosses for them to be drilled. I hope this helps.

x bolts = cross bolts . I hope this helps.
If you are still lost it refers to the main bearing caps. Chevy and later fords used for performance apps use what are called 4 bolt mains. Well the FE series engine is to narrow in the pan to have 4 bolts. So instead they put bolts through the side of the block into the Main caps to help them hold up better. I hope this makes things a little clearer.

427's dont have replaceable freeze plugs on the sides of the block. Instead, they have BIG screw in pipe plugs with a big hex in the center. They also have the center three mains crossbolted. There are three 3/8 bolts above the oil pan in the side skirt of the block. They are the only FE's to have crossbolted mains or the screw in freeze plugs.
