This week has been great so far. Started the final assembly of my 49. Installed the front fenders and hood. Put 5 gals of gas in the tank and checked the gas gauge. It worked and seemed to be accurate. Installed the bed and rear fenders. Started it up and started checking things out. Had to get the TV cable adjusted and the trans shifting properly. Calibrated the electric speedometer. Then I got the front end aligned. What a difference that made. Had to realign the steering wheel after the alignment. Next I got the state inspection. Went over and filled up with gas and headed out for a test ride. Drove about 30 miles. Can't wipe the grin off my face. The power steering is great. You can take your hands off the wheel and it goes straight down the road. No vibration or wandering. The brakes stop it quick and straight. Got it up to 65 MPH and everything was great, no vibrations or rear end whine. At 65 MPH it was turning 1800 RPM, so I hope that means good gas mileage.
I put one pic in my gallery. Will put more soon.
Rusty,
This truck is my '49. It has a Edelbrock carb.
My '50 has the TPI in it. It isn't finished yet. I do have all the wiring done and have run the engine, but it is not ready to drive yet. It starts and runs just fine. I used a long Painless wiring harness so I could mount the ECM behind the seat. It hasn't given any error codes, so I think everthing came out good. I put in a chip for a '89 with the egr deleted. Don't get in a hurry and the wiring will come out OK. Let me know if I can help.
Thanks I'll do that. I'm using the harness that came with the car as much as possible. I bought a stand alone from Current wiring and a 22 Ez wire to do the truck with. Just a lot of wires. A little bit scary.
