intake for 360?

i was thinking of trying to find an intake for my 360. it has the D2TE-AA heads on it. I am looking for an intake that I can put a 4-barrel Edelbrock on, is the a good Factory intake to use for this that I can port match?? or am I going to have to find an aftermarket intake? does anyone have any GOOD expereinces and with what intake? could a guy port and polish his heads with a Dremel?? would it be very hard to do? would anyone have any type of tutorial? part numbers would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

intake for 360?

I just bought a video from Standard Abrasives, Motor Sport Division, entitled "Power Porting". It arrived in the mail yesterday, so I've not had a chance to see it. They have a tutorial on their website, too.

Josh, you have 3 choices- 1) the Blue thunder 427MR intake, 2) the Edelbrock Performer RPM, and 3) the Edelbrock Perfomer. The Blue thunder is the most powerful, but would have slightly less low rpm power than the other two.....the regular Edel Performer has the strongest low speed power, but it also runs out of breath the soonest. I like to listen to my engine at 6750, so I bought the Blue Thunder. Not everyone feels comfortable with this kind of engine speed however. How tight do YOU like to wind it ? DF

intake for 360?

hey guy's thanks for the info I have a swap meet to goto tomarrow night!! lots to look at! I am going to rebuild my motor next spring so I am just getting parts rounded up for that. Hopefully after the rebuild I can turn at least 5500 without hearing the lifters rattle!(only done that once!) I would like it to have some low end punch to it, but I may do a gear swap.. Not sure yet, I am definatly going to put a new cam in it. would a crower powerbeast go good with such a setup? as in stock 360 w/427 intake and ported d2teaa heads? or as a 390 setup? I really dont want to change over the rotating assembly to 390(more cash I dont have) thats why I am going to swap meet! thanks again for the info!

JKN, I just had a chance to watch that Power Porting video. It was pretty straightforward with lots of good tips.

DF, How much is that Blue Thunder manifold?

I believe the PI intakes were aluminum and are fairly sought after in the aftermarket. You might look for one of those at your Swap meet. Also there were smoe earlier designs that many people like. Offenhauser make a FE intake much like the Performer RPM it is rated at 2500- 6000. Where the RPM is 2500 - 6500. There are alot of intake to be had. DOVE is a manufacturer that most people on this site seem to not know about. The biggest problem with them is getting it in a timley manner after you order. They do make Good Quality though. Most of the intake mentioned run about the same money. give or take a little bit o $$$. Good luck at the Swap.

No one mentioned the factory manifold with the big S on it. I do believe that the Edelbrock Performer is patterened after it. Don't bother with the Ford intake without the S. Most consider it anchor weight.

There is one other cast iron intake that is worhty. Casting numbers I believe are C8OE 9425. These markings will be found on the rear runner on the intake as opposed to the rest of the fe intakes. This was found on some of the Cougars equipped with 428's. Looks like a cast version of the PI. The S code I think was found on the 390GT. From what I have seen the aforementioned intake has a higher rise than the S code.

intake for 360?

well I went to the swap meet tonight and found 2 intake I did not by either of them! that sucks! anyways one was a tri-power, the guy was sellin it for $1200!! had holleys and air cleaner! looked nice but a little to rich for my shallow pockets! and the other was one that some kid pulled off his 390, who had piston trouble, then left the thing out in the rain a couple times! was not really sure to trust him or not considering it was 65 for intake, holley carb, air cleaner, and edelbrock valve covers! but If thats all I can find tomarrow at the swap meet I'll just order an edelbrock! tonight was first night anyway everyone wasn't all set up and some had all the goodies covered! so back to the meet tomarrow!

Thanks,
Josh
