Transmission vs MPG

Hello all;
The C6 is a great tough transmission (best auto truck trans, until the new torqueshift and I'm still not truly sold on the torqueshift), but does not have overdrive. If you are looking into converting to stick shift you may also want the overdrive option. I am not familiar with the T-19. I do know that the ZF's that were ran for the last few years of the 460 were also tough and had OD for the freeways.
Just something to think about.

The C-6 does not have a lock up torque convertor and that is where the mileage lose compared to the newer auto trannies comes from. The newer lock up convertor trannies pretty much equal the manual shift trannys in mileage, at least my 1999 V-6 4.0 Liter Ranger does when compared to the stick shift version.

Thanks for the replies
The truck I'm looking at still has a good C6 which has been beefed up with additional drive clutches etc, but if it dies I would look at going manual.
I've known T-18/19's that have stood huge abuse in lighter trucks or behind smaller motors, but do they stand up satisfactorily to hard work in a F350/460 combination with heavy loads?
