Transmission vs MPG

I'm looking at buying an F350, 460/C6. What difference in MPG could you expect with a T-19 instead of the auto in the same truck, same conditions?

i dont have experience with the c-6 however from what ive read they seem to be about 2 mpg less than a manual transmission since they have no lockup in the torque converter.

Hello all;
The C6 is a great tough transmission (best auto truck trans, until the new torqueshift and I'm still not truly sold on the torqueshift), but does not have overdrive. If you are looking into converting to stick shift you may also want the overdrive option. I am not familiar with the T-19. I do know that the ZF's that were ran for the last few years of the 460 were also tough and had OD for the freeways.

Just something to think about.

i would really like to swap out my t-19 for a 5-speed. ive got a friend that ran a tranny shop and said to steer clear of the zf's that theyre not as reliable as people think. dont want to adapt in a NV4500 either though. those seem to be only options.

There is always the option of adapting one of the new 6 speeds used for the last few years to the 460. I do not know if it is even feasable. Would be kind of cool though..........

If I ever knock the ZF out, I may have to look into this.

The C-6 does not have a lock up torque convertor and that is where the mileage lose compared to the newer auto trannies comes from. The newer lock up convertor trannies pretty much equal the manual shift trannys in mileage, at least my 1999 V-6 4.0 Liter Ranger does when compared to the stick shift version.

Thanks for the replies

The truck I'm looking at still has a good C6 which has been beefed up with additional drive clutches etc, but if it dies I would look at going manual.

I've known T-18/19's that have stood huge abuse in lighter trucks or behind smaller motors, but do they stand up satisfactorily to hard work in a F350/460 combination with heavy loads?
