things to look for in buying used trucks?

I'm in the market to buy a 2004-2006 F150 Crew Cab 4x4. I'd like to get one with a 5.4. With this model in mind are there any problem areas in need to look out for. Thanks

I still consider my 04 new. Seriously though, the complaints have come in cycles. At one time, everyone seemed to complain about rear end shudder and whine. Then there were complaints about steering wheel nibble, vibrations, brakes, cam phasers. spark plugs, etc. I would just make sure one I bought was serviced well, not mistreated and everything works properly. Base your purchase on the condition of the particular truck.

There seems to be alot less trouble with the 4.6 v8 than the 5.4 v8. Although the 5.4 is more powerful and overall more "drivable". I find my 4.6 more than adequate, and with a couple of mods it can be even better. You might sleep better not having to think about cam phasers, or spark plugs breaking off or blowing out, etc. Bottom line is the 4.6 will give you less problems later. All this said, my next one will probably have the 5.4

Things to think about:

engine size
gears (3.73 vs. 3.55)
bed size
4x4 vs. 4x2
cloth vs. leather
mileage
maintenance history
tires

I wish I did all this when I got mine. LOL

Well just look everything over and consider the wants and needs or what you want more than need etc and of course take it for a drive listen to anything weird sounding etc

Only thing I dislike about my SCREW is the gas mileage ( can't help it and really ain't conserned about it) and the cloth seat covers.

Look for leather but if the truck you find has cloth buy some good seat covers to prevent the staining if it hasn't happened already. Water will stain the cloth in these things...Seriously
