Clicking noise at low speeds?

I have a 99 F150 4wd with about 105,000 miles on it recently i noticed a clicking noise when slowing down to stop. Does anyone know what this could be?

Can you tell where it is coming from?

If it is coming from the engine, I would check your solenoids, electrical cables and alternator. Does the vehicle seem jumpy when you are trying to brake? Does the engine rev when you put pressure on the brake pedal?

If not, check your brake system. Check the calipers to make sure the pistons are in proper working order. Does the brake pedal pulsate when you push on it? Does the front end shimmy or vibrate when braking?

i will place my bets on ujoints somewheres. In my humble opinion, these trucks aren't exactly wonderful at keeping ujoints, my 01 has had two sets of spicer brand ujoints at only 149K. V6 5spd truck

U-joints going bad usually sounds like creaking to me, not "clicking". Also more noticeable upon acceleration than "coast to a stop".

With so little to go with I'd suggest "slowing to a stop" by coasting with the motor off to isolate driveline noises from possible motor noises.

A better description of the "clicking" would go a long way here.

I'm just throwing a theory out for the sake of having another idea out, but is it possible that at the slower speeds, the alternator isn't getting enough draw on it to keep it fully charged, so the alternator itself is sputtering when slowing down?

And I agree with Club -- a better description would help. I'd recommend trying to track down where it is coming from. Also, does engine temperature affect the noise at all? Does it happen when you stop at the end of your driveway the same as it does when you've been driving it for some time?

I've got the same thing going on right now. Its really just a clicking noise like when you were a kid a clipped a baseball card to your bike to hit the spokes of the rim. I usually only notice it after braking but sometimes I notice it just coasting slow speeds. It doesn't feel/sound like u-joints as it only occurs at slow speeds. I have shut the engine off and it still made the noise. I've checked the cv shafts because that was my first thought, but it appears its coming from the rear. I think i've isolated it to the rear brakes because it didn't happen until after the first time using the parking brake. I haven't got a chance to take them apart though to verify.
