By the way, those studs with nc/nf threads are the way to go. You won't end up having to tighten the exhaust manifolds down every other week. Are you thinking about putting a crossover in the exhaust?

Speaking of dampners I got mine back from the Dampner Doctner today and it's looking pretty good!

He also turns down the sealing area and sleeves them with a stainless steel sleeve.

Now I need to find a pulley to bolt on the front for the fan drive. does anyone have suggestions as to a good choice?

No.....I wasn't going to use a crossover. (there's actually a little one in the manifold!)

Is it really needed?

Some claim that a crossover, because it evens out backpressure, is a good thing. I really couldn't say with any kind of expertise one way or the other - I know it's a little more money and a little more hassle when you need to pull down the pipes. I like that big ol' truck with the o.d. green and all. It'll be a good time when you get done. Power assist brakes?

It can certainly help reduce or minimize any resonance in the cab. I added a crossover to my other project car and that made it tolerable to drive on the street.

I believe the truck was originally owned by the US Army at FT Lewis, WA.

I'm not going to repaint it in OD though..

Yes it does have the original vacuum operated "Hydro-Booster" System. I was driving it with the old worn out 239 That I had in it. I did replace the wheels with rebuilts and put radials on it. I also replaced the complete brake system with new wheel cyls, master cyls, and a rebuilt hydro-booster. The brakes work VERY well.

In addition, I also completely rebuilt the front axle. (new/over sized kingpins etc)

It actually ran pretty good until the timing set slipped! (although with the wornout 239 it was a little anemic on power!)

I think the 292 bolted to the E4OD will run pretty good.
