FE 428 Cobra Jet in International W6

Hey guys. Just though you might like to hear this. My neighbor has a International W6 that about 15 years ago they swapped in a 428 Cobra Jet and I just wanted to know if anyone else has heard of such a thing. Anyway this tractor is putting out 200 h.p. and 300 ft. lb of torque and let me tell you with 2 1/2 inch primary 4 inch collector updraft open headers it sounds nice!!
Just thought that was pretty cool.

That is pretty cool. Are you saying the 428 only has 300 ft lbs. Its almost imossible to have a correctly tuned 428 put out less than 400 ft lbs. I always thought the 428 crank should have found its way into the FT family.

They don't wind it over 2500 rpms.
It's a torque monster with a custom made cam and it runs on LP. They were running on gas first and had problems with the 12 to 1 compression ratio detionating with the aluminum heads. After it melted two of the pistons within the first year they switched it over to LP. Runs great!!
Last year they topped it out a 54mph!!

Is this a tractor-pull setup? Or an actual farm use tractor? I can't imagine going 54MPH on a tractor!

Dad's 6588 2+2 (articulated 4X4) will go 27mph. It definitely doesn't need to go any faster but I can see how a conventional tractor would go a little faster. You are facing too many factors at 54mph with one though. I don't think the tires are made for that much inertia.

I woulnt be worried about the tires coming apart if they are in decent condition. If they still have fluid in them that might make them a little bit more prone to coming apart. The guys at the NTPA pulls spin them big ******* tires well over 100MPH when they go down the track. I know they are special tires but you guys should be safe, Just dont go around any Corners

i have seen many tractor ads with 352's, 360's, and 390's. never did go look at one though. there was an auction not too long ago that had two tractors that both had either 390's or 460's. the FE bellhousing must have something in common with some tractors or something

Yea it's a real beast to hold between the lines(especialy when the front wheels are in the air)No, Its not a pulling tractor the tranny would never take that. Its used pretty much for shows, showing off, doughnuts, and running the corn drier. As for the bellhousing they had to custom make that with the starter housing on the top because it wouldn't fit between the frame rails in the stock location. As for road handling it's pretty good. Front tires are 6.00x16 and rears are 20.8x30. This is a Wheatland tractor and it has a nice low stance with wide front. There only is about 1 foot of clearance under the tractor.
