Early 99 turbo wheels question.

Early 99 turbo wheels question.
I was reading a recent thread about turbo wheels and i have a couple of questions. For the early wheel are all the fins the same length and semetrical or do the fins alternate in size. When I was doing the turbo check on my early 99 for play I noticed that my wheel fins alternate in size. So that got me to doing some research and all I could find was the WW for the 99.5. So now I am confused. Pictures?

The early 99 wheel *IS* the Wicked Wheel for the 99.5-03 trucks. And yes, it alternates 5 large & 5 small blades. The stock late wheel is 9 large equal size blades...
WW looks like this:
I don't have a pic of the stock late wheel, but I could put one up if you want. It's sitting right here.

Here's what the stock late wheel looks like:
I'm sitting here bored so I figured I'd go ahead and post it. Wife had her Wisdom Teeth out, so I can't really start anything outside. It's killing me too. It's a four day weekend and I have my in-tank mods ready to go and a TransGo kit to put in.

Read this thread:

It pretty much covers any question you might have about it. I can't remember the date that breaks the early from late. Look for the smaller spider on the earlies -- late is 3" spider & tubes and early is 2 1/2" IIRC...
Others will surely chime in with all the correct info.

if your spider pipe looks like the one not painted..then you have a early 99..the driver side IC pipe hooks into the spider leg sticking out to the right..you can see it gets smaller as it enters the spider..the one painted is the 99.5 and up... ..see that same leg is a full 3" as it enters the spider..
here is an early 99 wheel..i can take it out and measure it if you like..

Read the thread Izzy and now I'm more confused. From that thread Strokin_it7.3 posted
"The $425 ATS compressor housing is a mechanically designed cure to eliminate the problem, it will slightly increase the whistle, making it higher pitched. The WW is about $60 from Xtreme diesel.com and it actually is less efficient, flowing less air to reduce surge in most cases. Some people with lots of mods and a WW can still surge."
So if the WW is less efficient and flows less air to reduce surge then why do air intake mods to get more air? I must be missing something here.

Ok. So then does it make any sense to try and increase the air intake via the 6637 or other filter mod if your running a WW? It would seem that the airintake mod would only make sense if the stock intake could not "keep up" with the WW air demand requirements.
Does anyone have, or can direct me to any data that specifies what the maximum WW air intake requirements are, and what the associated pressure drops across the various filters at that maximum air intake requirement is.

Oh boy... Sounds like we have another "earnesteugene" in the works.
The 6637 is a far superior filter and I think flows more than the stock air box. I also think it sounds really cool as well. What I can tell you is that the WW dropped my boost back to where the turbo is not overboosting (maxes right at 25psi now), nor is it surging anymore. Specific air flow rates I don't know. I only know it fixed my problems.

The early has the smaller turbo and WW already there. And it always makes sense to reduce intake restrictions and increase the filtering capability, so I'd say go for it. I believe the early 99s require a piece of 120* pipe to make the 6637 fit properly, so keep that in mind. The intake tube on the later trucks is long enough so the filter can be directly attached. Yours will probably be a little short.
