Yes, there is a front cover like a gasser. But be warned, to replace it, you will have to pull the engine.......I think. I disassembled my first stroke a few months back, (bought a complet engine for spare parts) and this is what I learned. You have to pull the crank pulley and balancer. But what I didn't know was the oil pump was right behind the balancer. That comes off easy enough, but here's the kicker. The oil pickup tube is bolted to the front cover behind the pump.. I was trying to pull the front cover and it was fighting me....(didn't know about the pickup tube) I had the pan bolts off all the bolts out and it wouldn't come off. Since it was already broken I just pryed it off breaking it of course. Hmmmmm lesson learned. If I would have pulled the pan, I would have seen it. But I just pulled the bolts holding the cover. Anyway, yes there is a gear cover, but it will be a mother to replace. If there is another way to replace it, I would sure like to know as well.

If you pull the radiaot and If you get the engine high enough with the oil pan loose you might be able to get the nuts off of the pick-up tube. I don't know for sure, never done it. Getting the tube reinstalled might be a PITA. My 2 cents.
