Are all PTO's created equal?
Anyhow, it had a winch on it that looked like it'd put my 9500 Lb Ramsey winch to shame...
Upon closer inspection, it appeard to be driven by a chain that went through the bed to the driveshaft area.
Then it started to rain.
My winch is shot... I'm wondering how hard it'd be to adapt a PTO to my ZF transmission. Are PTO's standard? Would it be just as simple as taking my driveshaft out and getting it shortened, then slapping a gearbox behind my ZF like a divorced transfer case?
I don't even remember the brand or year of the tow truck.
a pto in place. The gaskets used to install the pto, also sets the gear backlash.
you may be able to adapt a lot of the components off of that winch and drive
to your truck. Most of the pto mounts are the same, noting the bolt number.
A devorced transfer case/auxilary trans would involve a lot of fabrication.
Good luck with your project
