My son just purchased his first truck a 99 F150 with 280k on it. It’s clean and runs great. Going through fluids now. He just got baptized by transmission fluid with his first pan drop lol. Still has a slight stutter at 40mph but other than that and a intermittent pats issue it’s a great truck

I will note this...I now get only about 20,000 miles out of the plugs...at 286,000 and using some oil...I'm an old car owner and drive my old cars (1929 Ford and 1961 Studebaker) ...so I maintain them. I know the "new" vehicles can go 100,000 miles between plug changes.. but then again the plugs are corroded into the sockets! I don't mind changing plugs at 20,000 miles...My other cars always get 10,000 changes. Not wanting to open a "discussion" but I do use Marvel Mystery Oil IN THE FUEL about every 10th tank... who knows. Old cars I use every fill up. The 4.2 seems bullet proof. Change the anti freeze often....

Just bought my 17 year old son a 2008 F-150 with a 4.2 V6 and 185k miles for his birthday. It’s in pretty good condition with no rust or major damage. It had a slight miss during acceleration especially around 40-50 mph when I bought it, but it’s now fixed after changing the ignition coil, spark plugs, coil wires, and fuel filter. I’m hoping to get 300k out of it between my three boys. Next thing to fix is the door blend actuator before cold weather.

It's doable. The parts are cheap. I did mine a few years ago.

Think about the transmission fluid and diff fluid. Have a look at the 3rd brake light. Teach the buys to install a new radio with Android Auto.

Thanks,

I have a 99 with 213,000 original miles on it. It's a dog but it runs good.

I have a 2007. The 4.2 didn't get all the problems of the 5.4 or 4.6.

This thread is meant just for reporting mileage.

You should start a new thread. At the upper left there shoudl be an orange box that says "+ New Thread". Click it. Tell a story. Is the check engine light on? Are there codes? Is it a 5 speed or an automatic? Etc. Don't answer here, answer in the new thread. Good luck.

Talking 300,000 miles and counting on my '99 f150 4.2 v6

Hey guys, just rolled over 300k on my '99 f150 with a 4.2 v6. I have never put a dime into engine repairs except for a maf sensor that left me stranded once (OK, not a real engine repair). Completely maintenance free with just an oil change every 10k miles. The truck body is dent free and in excellent shape without any rust or hail damage. I don't pull heavy trailers but do regularly pull a couple of mx bikes on a light motorcycle trailer. I'm always hauling something in the back though. Awesome truck, interested to see just how long this will run! I have a 1k mile trip coming up in 6 weeks, not afraid to take this truck on it because it doesn't let me down!
