Has anyone here "gone convertable" with their B2? I've got a line on a cheap bronco 2 that needes a LOT of work, and if I get it I was considering cutting the top off of it ala fullsize Bronco...
If you have done this, could you post pics? Thanks.
You can find pics of people who have done it on broncoii.org. Lots have and it makes for a lighter truck but I don't personally like the looks. I also like a real roof, doors and windows. Keeps the weather, dust, mud and thieves out and cool/warm air in.
I'd keep the doors and roof over the front, but I'd want to do away with the heavy oven over the rear seats and cargo area. I'd probably remove the rear seats anyway.
Since I'll be in southern az for a couple years, I figure a convertable would be nice. I wonder if a soft top could be adapted to a B2?
A convertible in southern AZ? Man it's so hot down there you can literally fry eggs on the blacktop and eat outside in the middle of winter. I live outside Albuquerque NM and it hits 100 a lot in the summer. Southern AZ gets to 120 or more. Summer in southern AZ is when you want the AC for sure!! One thing I did recently to enhance my rooftop insulation was to remove the headliner and put 1/2in foam carpet padding in there. Line the whole top with it and reinstall the headliner. It makes a big difference. But if you chop it, good luck! It won't grow back!
I don't live in AZ but I like my chop top for the summer. Of course it's not a daily driver either. Not shown in the pictures is the rollbar and bikini top over the rear seat. I ripped all of the AC stuff of of mine and threw it away. In the winter I've got the removable rear cab panel and tonneau cover to make it like a mini pickup. For this winter I'm adding a snowplow to plow my driveway.
53deere, Thats a nice job you did. It's cool! Looks like a custom short bed ranger. I thought about doing something like that but just behind the back seats Like a little crew cab, LOL. Look good to me. Cheers
No write up, just those pictures as I went. Lots of time spent just measuring, thinking, measuring again, cut, weld, measure, think, etc.
Now I'm looking for a wrecked Explorer, I think it's time for a 4.0 swap. Depending on the day I think keep the 2.9, swap in a V8, swap in a 4.0, but the 4.0 swap is just to easy compared to the 302.
