99 F-250 4x4 V10
I am looking at a 1999 F-250 SuperDuty 4x4 with a V-10 and SuperCab. This truck has 35,000 miles on it with an auto and towing package. I'm not familiar with the V-10 and would like to know if there is a reason to stay away from it. I don't want a 5.4 and a diesel is to loud for the wife and we all know that the wife will win in the end. This doesn't seem like alot of miles but I am worried about the piston slap everyone is talking about. I appreciate all the help.
Thanks
Scott

Well, I love my V-10. The only problem I had was the engine "flutter" which was corrected by Ford under the TSB. I am glad I did not settle for the 5.4L and I could not justify the expense (or put up with the noise and stench) of a PSD.
Now, let's hear from some of the piston slappers out there.........

You know, I believe that you can go to a dealer and have him type in the VIN to see if any warranty or TSB's have been performed on the truck. (I did with my Excursion.) Maybe it's already been fixed?? I bought an aftermarket warranty for mine to 100K miles. Let it slap! If I were you (and I'm not) I'D be lookin' for a 2000 (more little horseys hidin' under the hood) Good luck!
