Ever heard or used one of these?

The U.S. Gear Power fan. In my first post (ever) in the Excursion forum I stated that I was wanting to improve my MPG for no other reason than to see if I could. One thing I was looking for was a way to run my fan only when really necessary. We all know what a HP/MPG robber that fan can be on the highway when the 70mph air moving over the radiator will more than cool the V10 (not to mention the SIZE of our radiators.) So, anyway, while I was purusing the diesel forum. (yes, I'm a diesel fan... don't tell anyone here though...) a kid had installed a product called a Power Fan. I have provided a link to it.

One question is to those who have used it. > Does it work?

Second question is to those who haven't. First, check it out. Then would you mind replying here with your initial reaction to it? Ya'lls opinion means more to me than the manufacturer's claims. Thanks a lot.

Oh, one more thing...If you all agree that this would be a worthy endeavor, I will be accepting donations on behalf of the "The Monsta Engine Performance Enhancement Fund." All donations will be strictly confidential and no mention to the IRS will be made. On your Postal money orders (only.), please note what the monetary GIFT will be for, i.e. Whipple Supercharger, Banks Powerpack, Power fan, gear Vendor over/Under drive, etc. you get the idea, right?!

A little pricey - $595.00 Although it's about the same for a quality intake & exhaust kit. But states higher performance per $$.

That looks like a great set-up. I think it would be great to have if I can afford it some day. I've seen similar deals on big rigs, except it just runs off the water temp and you don't have as much control over it, just automatic or locked on. I think that when you're pulling a load then it would probably run more of the time though. I know that it would give you more power and you would really notice it (especially if the fan kicked in pulling a hill). I think it would be great to have and I'm sure you'd enjoy it very much. But the first time it kicked in going down the road you'd think the engine is blowing up Just my thoughts :-)

That does look like a great idea although a bit on the pricey side. Any one ever thought of or tried removing the current fan and replacing it with and electric fan?

350R, with regards to an electric fan, that would require changing from mechanical energy to electrical energy (the alternator) and back again to mechanical energy. A first year physics no-no. Compare the size of a conventional fan to even the biggest and best car electric fan. A conventional fan is MUCH more powerful and power demanding.
OK, now on to the common sense thing. If air is being pushed through the radiator at 70 mph, how much work is the fan really doing? I'm in Florida, so a fan more closely linked to the demands of the AC sounds good to me, but I don't like to go first. I'd rather have a fan that breaks down "on" than one that might breakdown "off"

You have a point there about reconverting energy back and forth. In Fla you will also be subjected to heat than here in Co. Although hauling three ATV's and pulling a camper up the mountains will also subject us to created heat that must be dissapated as well. I have some pics of my rig in the photos section if you would like to take a look http://www.rockymountainatv.org/ I started designing the rack when I ran out room in Ranger. Soon after getting the 250 I put it all together. It used to just under 7' and would go in my garage but I went to 255x55x16 tire and it now doesn't fit. Since its all modular I took it off for the winter to help keep the truck warmer and cleaner.

That all sounds pretty good on paper. But I wonder, if you wound up cooking the motor when this thing does'nt work, who's gonna cover it? In 1995 there was a similar unit hooked up on the Chevy Caprice Police Packages, Within a 9 month period our department had cooked 5 out of 17 motors when they shorted out.
Just my $.02 worth!!
