1950 F-3 Brake shoes

In a bit of a dilemma, was able to obtain all the parts to overhaul my front axle and all new brake parts except for front brake shoes. ( 12 x 1/34 )

Searched through numerous vendors and NAPA and they are not available.

Anybody know a source??

While I'm at it, how about rear brake parts?? ( 14 x 2 )

Haven't located anything for the rear yet.
Expect to need new wheel cylinders, the fronts were not rebuildable, shoes, grease seals, return springs etc.

Gets much worse may have to replace rear axle with a more modern unit, and who knows where that may take me, could end up slipping to the dark side!!

The first place you have to try is JobLot Automotive, http://www.joblotauto.com/ They carry parts for the larger trucks. I don't think you'll find the shoes there, you'll have to have them relined. Go to your local auto parts store, a good one, they should be able to tell you where to get them relined. Don't go to a chain auto store, they'll just waste your time punching buttons on their computer before telling you they don't have the part. I have also had good luck at my local NAPA store but you have to talk to old guy who has been working there for a long time, he'll take the time to talk to you.

Before you go to the dark side look around for a rear axle from a F-2 of the vintage. You will be able to get rid of your "Widow Maker" 17" rims, the Ford design with two almost equal halves, and use the one piece 16" rims. If you can't find an axle from a F-2 Ford used the same bolt pattern until the late '90s on their F-250s and a pre-'73 should pretty much bolt right in. A '73 and up axle will be too wide.

One thing, get rid of the 17" two piece Ford rims, they're dangerous and you won't find anyone who will work on them. If they have the outer snap ring you may find someone to mount tires on them.

That was quick.

Thanks for the info, Bob

Ordered a catalog from Joblots.

Already had plans to do away with the widowmakers, just a little to scary for me.
