I also have an early 99 7.3L F250. I was real serious about getting a turbo upgrade a few months ago. I did some calling around to some of the larger turbo companies. I can't remember (or find the E-Mail) from the one turbo manufacturer, but their upgrade kit will upgrade the mounting flange to a late 99 turbo pattern, then they have a better turbo to go along with it. The tech support people at most of the companies are very easy going. I hope this helped. I will still keep looking for the past E-Mails.

Why are you wanting change out your turbo? If you are looking for some mods to do to improve your performance check out this thread by Kris. I also have an early 99 and have done many of the mods Kris talks about and I couldn't be happier with the results.

in my sig below is the exploded view of a 7,3..in that link is the early 99 and 99.5 turbo side by side...the 99.5 flows more air cause all inlets and out lets are 3 inches compared to the early 99's 2 inch..there wont be much seat of the pants power but the EGT's will run a lot lower..if you want power gains do the HPOP..then if you want more do the injectors..black widow diesel sells the d66 turbo that bolts right to the early 99..http://www.beansdieselperformance.com/99-03turbo.htm they told me with some split shots and programing i could see 400 hp..i went the up grade way cause my turbo was shot..could not be rebuilt and i got a good deal on a used conversion kit..
