Coolant for V-10

I have a 2000 F-250 Superduty with the V-10. The owners manual states not to use entended life coolant in this engine. Is this true? Why can't entended life coolant be used? Is it due to the iron block?

Thanks in advance

Howard

If the extended life coolant you're talking about is the new gold stuff, my 2002 V-10 came with it from the factory (KTP).

The manual states not to use the red extended life coolant such as dexcool. I have not heard of the new gold stuff. Is the new gold stuff available from the dealer?

Coolant for V-10

Just got my 2002 f250 SD SB V10 3.73LS Lariat 2 weeks ago and I love it!

In it is the 'new' gold antifreeze. My question is can this be replace by the old standard green stuff and if not, do I have to go back to the dealer when I ned to add or change?

Thanks!

See the thread "Coolant in 2002 F250 Superduty v10" in the FTE "Superduty and Heavyduty" message board - to make a long story short:

You CANNOT mix the red/orange stuff with the Gold

You can probably mix the Green stuff with the Gold but it is not recommended to do so for now (until Ford completes its compatability testing)

The Ford part number for the gallon jug of the Gold stuff is VC-7-A (VC-7-B in Oregon, VC-7-C for a 55 gallon drum of the stuff)

Eventually, Ford is putting this stuff in all of their vehicles

Texaco makes the Gold stuff for Ford

It should be available in stores in the near future

When your Ford parts dept says they never heard of such and try to sell you the green or the red/orange, refer them to the Ford Modified Vehicle Engineering Bulletin (QVM Bulletin) No. Q-79 dated February 18, 2002 and TSB 02-3-4 referenced by that bulletin.

Hope this helps.....
